Department Activities 2019-2020

Department of Chemical Engineering within the cultural and scientific season for the first semester 2019-2020 held a scientific lecture by Dr. Haidar Abdul Karim

Within the activities of scientific and cultural activity for the first semester of the Department of Chemical Engineering for the academic year 2019-2020 (Khloud Salim Ibrahim) Lecture entitled:

Preparation of Composite- Modified Iraq Clays for the Hydro desulfurization of Heavy Fuels

In the presence of Mr. Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering Associated Prof. Dr.  Jamal Manee Alrubay, the assistants, heads of branches, academic staff, employees and students of masters and doctorate on Thursday, 9/1/2020

The oil refining industry has considerably grown during the 20th century to become an important part of everyday modern activity. One of the main objectives of processing of heavy fuels is to reduce their very high sulfur ratio. This project aim to preparation and characterization different types of catalyst by using kaolin Iraq's clay (metakaolin materials with big pores from natural clays of Iraq).

Metakaolin was introduced into alumina as composite support for hydrodesulfurization process and use series of active metal (e.g. nickel, iron, cobalt, silver, copper and molybdenum). The catalyst was preparing  by the incipient wetness impregnation (IWI) method and characterize by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), FT-IR, pore volume and BET surface area. Their hydrodesulfurization (HDS) activity for heavy fuels (gas oil) are evaluating and comparing in different parameter (temperature, pressure etc.) by fixed bed reactor. Study the kinetic of HDS reaction using the differant catalysts separately. Apply this process through a mathematical model.
