 A scientific team from the Chemical Engineering Department professors at the University of Technology visits Samarra Pharmaceutical Company

Based on the university's slogan of serving the community, a scientific delegation from the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology, headed by Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, visited the General Company for the Manufacture of Medicines and Medical Supplies in Samarra, on Thursday, 27-2-2025. The delegation was received by Chemical Engineer Muhammad Abdul Qader Al-Naimi, General Manager of the company, and the administrative and scientific staff of the company. The General Manager of the company explained the nature of work in the pharmaceutical industry, laboratories and production lines owned by the company, which achieve the final product with high specifications. In a related context, the head of the department, Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr, praised the company's efforts and the great service it provides to the community by providing medicines and supplies with national effort and advanced quality. The visit also included a field tour of the departments (Quality Control and Al-Zahrawi specialized in grain production), where the delegation was briefed on the mechanism of the production process and the standards followed in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products.This visit comes within the framework of cooperation between the university and the company, which contributes to the development of production and scientific processes and benefiting from the expertise available at the University of Technology. At the end of the visit, the delegation expressed their thanks and gratitude to the company's management for the warm reception. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology holds a joint scientific symposium with the College of Petroleum Operations Engineering at Tikrit University on the production of sustainable carbon

Within the framework of scientific communication witnessed by the University of Technology with reputable local academic institutions. Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Technology Incubator and Ecosystem Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering held a joint symposium with the College of Petroleum Operations Engineering at Tikrit University entitled (Production of sustainable carbon supported by magnetized iron and its use in purifying polluted water). In the presence of the Advisor to the Parliamentary Energy Committee, Dr. Ahmed Yassin, and the Assistant Dean of the College of Petroleum Operations Engineering, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Yassin Dayea, and a group of college professors. The symposium included scientific lectures given by (Assistant Professor Adnan Ibrahim Ahmed) (Assistant Professor Safa Khalaf Attia) from the College of Petroleum Operations Engineering - Tikrit University. The symposium aimed to exchange experiences and scientific research on how to convert solid waste containing iron into materials that can be used sustainably, as the latest technologies in the field of waste treatment using magnetic carbon and its role in reducing environmental impacts were discussed. The symposium also highlighted the possibility of using these technologies in treating industrial waste and reducing environmental pollution. In this regard, the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr, stressed during the symposium the importance of preserving the environment, pointing out the importance of enhancing sustainable development, protecting the environment and protecting the health of society, as the government program of the state and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research were keen to pay great attention to the environment and sustainable development. On the other hand, the University of Technology has adopted the slogan of a sustainable green technological university in all aspects of its scientific and administrative programs and curricula. The scientific symposium session was chaired by Dr. Buthaina Ali Abdul, Director of the Technology Incubator and Ecosystem Unit in the department, and Dr. Khadija Najah as its rapporteur. At the end of the symposium, the guest delegation and the lecturers were honored by the Head of Chemical Engineering in appreciation of their efforts. In addition to honoring the emerging companies that were established by the unit in the Chemical Engineering Department, represented by the company (P.R.E.CHEM.ENG CLUB) headed by Assistant Lecturer Dr. Qusay Jaafar Al-Obaidi and his student team, as well as the team of Dar Company (DAR COMPAN) consisting of (Assistant Professor Dina Saadoun, Assistant Professor Ahmed Zamel, Assistant Professor Chemist Ruwa Alaa, Assistant Professor Taqi Jalal, and Assistant Professor Khadija Najah) for their distinguished participation in the activities of the Entrepreneurship Week and the National Industries Exhibition held at the University of Technology.

The Department of Chemical Engineering holds a workshop on the products and services of Modern Paints Company.Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban. And under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology held a workshop entitled (Products and Services of Modern Paints Company) on Tuesday 25/2/2025.The workshop included scientific lectures by Dr. Muhammad Jaber Yas and R. Engineers Alaa Abdul Razzaq and Engineer Atef Asfour from the General Company for Modern Paints.During which a detailed presentation was given on the reality of the modern paint industry and the types of products produced by the Modern Paints Company. The company's most important products of fire-resistant paint were also presented, in addition to addressing the properties and advantages of the company's products and the nature of the projects implemented by the company in the public and private sectors.At the end of the workshop, the lecturers were honored with certificates of appreciation by the head of the department in appreciation of their efforts in giving the lecture.

 

Joint research cooperation between the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology and the College of Engineering at the University of Iraq on building a sensor system to control pollution in chemical warehouses

Within the framework of the joint scientific cooperation between the University of Technology and the University of Iraq, the researcher assist. lecturer Samah Faris Kamil, a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, implemented her research project on manufacturing a sensor system that senses pollutants inside chemical warehouses and performs a comprehensive chemical wash of the air in order to reduce the effects of chemicals on the environment and the health of workers. The research project was for a master's degree at the University of Iraq under the supervision of Professor Dr. Riyadh Sadiq Muhammad from the Department of Chemical Engineering / University of Technology and Professor Dr. Muhammad Nasser Hussein from the College of Engineering at the University of Iraq. The researcher explained that the chemical warehouse is one of the important places in universities that we seek through this joint project to achieve the requirements of sustainability and environmental preservation in our chemical warehouses and laboratories. During his visit to the warehouse, the University Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Farhad Muhammad Othman, praised the scientific efforts and expressed his thanks and gratitude for all the efforts that contributed to the implementation of this joint scientific achievement.

 

The College of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology participates in the celebration of the National Day of the Holy Quran

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the celebration of the National Day of the Holy Quran was held today, Sunday, 2-2-2025. The College of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology participated in the celebration through the participation of the student reader Al-Jawadain Ali Hassoun / Second Stage, Department of Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining. The celebration was held in the Martyr Al-Hakim Hall at the University of Baghdad. The celebration included a speech by His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, during which he stressed the importance of the ministry's orientation towards consolidating the goals and contents of the tolerant heavenly message of the Holy Quran and encouraging students to memorize, recite and interpret. In this context, a special admission channel was created for students who have memorized the Holy Quran for all specializations. In addition to the trend towards creating a new channel to accept memorizers of the Holy Quran in postgraduate studies.

It is worth noting that the National Day of the Holy Quran celebration was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the presence of university presidents, deans of colleges, representatives of teaching staff and students accepted into the Quran Memorizers Channel in undergraduate university studies. The Department of Chemical Engineering hosted Prof. Dr. Jalal Muhammad Jalil from the Department of Electromechanical Engineering and a member of the Iraqi Council of Accreditation for Engineering Education: ICAEE, in the presence of the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, in a workshop on auditing engineering program accreditation standards on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. The workshop aimed to audit engineering accreditation standards and means of achieving them successfully to ensure the quality of the educational process.

Launching the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week in the Department of Chemical Engineering

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, and under the slogan (Chemical Engineering, the Factory of Creativity and Innovators), the Technology Incubator and Ecosystem Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering organized the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week on Sunday, 1/12/2024. The activities included in its morning sessions presentations of emerging projects for undergraduate students and projects for faculty members in the department. The sessions were chaired by Dr. Buthaina Ali Abd, Head of the Incubators Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering. In this regard, the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, stressed the importance of continuing to support the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, and stated: The emphasis on the activities of the Global Entrepreneurship Week annually comes with the aim of enhancing the role of the knowledge economy and serving the community by embracing entrepreneurial projects, which in turn supports all segments of society, eliminating unemployment, and transforming youth ideas into entrepreneurial projects that contribute to providing job opportunities for national cadres and achieving prosperity for the national economy. This initiative comes in line with the university's commitment to supporting innovation and strengthening the entrepreneurship system through specialized initiatives and support programs that will help entrepreneurs develop and expand their projects, acquire entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, and provide the necessary funding to achieve success in the field of entrepreneurship.

 

Chemical Engineering students lead football groups in the Championship of University of Technology

Within the Championship of University of Technology for students, which was held under the generous patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban. During the football match that took place between the Chemical Engineering students, Computer Science students, and Communications Engineering students, the Chemical Engineering students topped the first group by winning the matches that were held at the university. It is noteworthy that the University of Technology includes sixteen student teams competing in the university championship for students. Asst. Prof. Dr. Firas Farqad, head of the Student Activities Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering, stated that the university presidency, the department, and the Student Activities Department at the university are making exceptional efforts to encourage sports activity among students, as our dear students possess creative and athletic energies that enable them to achieve record numbers at the level of university sports.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, and under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar. The Department of Chemical Engineering held a workshop on immigration and illegal immigration on Thursday, 28/11/2024. The workshop included a scientific lecture by lecturer Donia Saad from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, during which she gave a detailed presentation on the concept of illegal immigration as a case of staying in a country illegally or entering legally and not leaving that country within the legal period allowed for staying in it. It is an issue that requires an evaluation of both the country intended for immigration, the country of origin, and the country of transit. The risks and suffering of immigration to European countries were also addressed. In addition to the effects of the difficult political and security conditions facing young people in illegal immigration. The researcher also explained that the true dignity of a person is linked to his country among his family and loved ones, as our country is distinguished by its blessings and is witnessing great economic and scientific openness. The workshop also included several interventions on the subject by presenting many solutions and recommendations to achieve security and economic stability in the country, in addition to improving the reality of education and creating equal job opportunities for young people and reducing immigration. At the end of the workshop, the lecturer was honored with a certificate of appreciation by the head of the department in recognition of her efforts in giving the lecture.

 

The Department of Chemical Engineering organizes an awareness lecture on the rights and duties of the employee according to the applicable laws

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized an awareness lecture on the rights and duties of the employee according to the applicable laws on Thursday, 28/11/2024. The lecture was delivered by Legal Advisor Ali Khader Abbas from the Ministry of Planning. He presented a detailed presentation on the nature of employee rights and duties under the applicable laws. The general rights of the employee were also addressed, including his right to receive salary and leave during work of all kinds and the extent to which this is consistent with the governing principle in administrative law. He explained the duties of the public employee according to the State and Public Sector Employees Discipline Law No. 14 of 1991, as amended, and how to deal with citizens, colleagues, and superiors, and the necessity of working with sincerity and responsibility, preserving the dignity of the job, and maintaining the confidentiality of documents and information.

In this regard, the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, stressed that the importance of holding this lecture lies in the fact that it aims to educate employees about the regulations and laws, as well as the rights and duties of government employees, and contributes to creating a capable, functional generation that possesses the knowledge, skills and expertise required to make the department and university work successful and contribute to the government program and institutional reform. At the end of the lecture, the lecturer was honored with a certificate of appreciation from the department’s presidency in recognition of his efforts in giving the lecture.

 

 

 The Department of Chemical Engineering organizes a discussion session on the artistic production of theses and research and solid publishing

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban. In cooperation with the Office of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized a discussion session entitled (Artistic production and discussion of the results of theses and research is the path to solid publishing) on ​​Wednesday 6/11/2024. The discussion session included a scientific lecture by the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr, for graduate students at the master's and doctoral levels. During it, he gave a detailed presentation on how to write theses, dissertations and scientific research and the basic steps for writing and publishing in solid international journals and avoiding publishing in predatory commercial journals and not relying on them as scientific sources. In addition to emphasizing the development of the relationship with solid international journals and publishing houses. Especially since scientific publishing represents an important scientific process with scientific, industrial and economic dimensions by transforming studies and research into actual projects that serve the country. It is worth noting that holding this discussion session comes within the framework of the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research's orientations to develop scientific research skills for graduate students through a series of lectures and workshops presented by qualified professors with extensive experience in the field of scientific research and publishing to enable all university students with academic tools and skills.

The Department of Chemical Engineering receives first-stage students for the academic year 2024-2025

As part of the Technological University's preparations to receive new students, the Department of Chemical Engineering received first-stage students in its three engineering branches (Chemical Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Oil Refining Branch, and Chemical Engineering, Pollution and Oil Branch) on Sunday, 11-10-2024. The meeting was attended by Professor Dr. Khaled Ajami Sakr, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, and the administrative and teaching staff in the department. At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of the Department welcomed and congratulated the new students on joining the Technological University, this lofty scientific edifice with scientific giving and excellence. During the reception, the Head of the Department stressed the importance of strengthening the theoretical and practical aspects of students according to the vision of the Technological University, which attaches great importance to the applied aspect. The necessity of cooperation of all teaching and administrative staff was also emphasized in order to implement the Bologna process with all flexibility and fluidity in order to advance the educational process. On the other hand, the assistant professors, heads of branches, and department professors reviewed the specificity of each branch from a scientific point of view and the industrial cycle in the field of work. In a related context, the department professors presented an introductory overview of the Chemical Engineering Department, in which they highlighted the role of the chemical engineer in building various chemical and oil industries in order to build a scientific economy based on the knowledge economy. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology organized a workshop entitled (E-Governance) on Sunday 11/10/2024. the workshop included scientific lectures by Lecturer Dr. Ammar Mohammed Ali and Assistant Lecturer Zaid Karim Hussein on e-governance and its applications as an important and fundamental pillar towards enhancing the concepts of transparency and efficiency in governmental and private institutions. It also included defining the concept of e-governance and its importance, and presenting the modern tools and techniques necessary for its implementation. In addition to identifying electronic systems for managing operations effectively with the aim of enabling participants in the workshop to improve administrative performance, reduce time waste, and prevent suspicions of corruption by applying the principles of e-governance. In conclusion, the lecturers were honored with certificates of appreciation by the Department Head in appreciation of their efforts in giving lectures.

 

The Department of Chemical Engineering organizes an awareness lecture on the Speicher crime

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghaban. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Technology held a scientific lecture on the Speicher massacre entitled (The Speicher Massacre, an Unforgettable Crime) on Thursday 11/7/2024. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Awrad Mohammed Malik from the College of Political Science, University of Baghdad.The lecture aimed to provide a detailed presentation of the painful events of the Speicher massacre that led to the martyrdom of hundreds of innocent citizens, which requires academic institutions to intensify their awareness-raising efforts in confronting extremism and deviant ideas and activating their role in serving society by consolidating the values of citizenship, educating students, spreading the culture of moderation, and undermining extremist behaviors that are alien to the Iraqi environment.The lecture also reviewed the historical and humanitarian aspects related to the Speicher massacre committed by the terrorist ISIS gangs in 2014. It also explained its effects on Iraqi society in various aspects and highlighted the measures taken by the Iraqi government against the perpetrators of this heinous crime, in addition to clarifying what the International Criminal Court has done in this regard. In addition to presenting many documents and films that embody the crime. The measures taken to prevent similar crimes from occurring in the future were also discussed.

Finally, the guest professor was honored with a certificate of appreciation by the department head in appreciation of her efforts in giving the lecture.

The Student Activities Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering continues to train the student football team in preparation for the University of Technology Championship

As part of the sports preparations for the University of Technology Football Championship, the Student Activities Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering, under the supervision of Captain Assistant Professor Dr. Firas Farqad Atta, conducted a series of sports training for the department's student football team at the University of Technology stadium. The exercises were attended by the Director of the Student Activities Department at the university, Assistant Professor Amin Dhnoon. It is worth noting that the Student Activities Department at the university is preparing to hold the University of Technology Football Championship, which will start soon under the generous sponsorship of the University of Technology Presidency.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the Department of Chemical Engineering organized a scientific discussion session entitled (Youth and Social Change) on Thursday, 24/10/2024. the lecture was given by Dr. Nagham Saadoun Rahima from Al-Mustansiriya University - Department of Anthropology. During the lecture, a detailed presentation was given on the importance of the role of youth and their contribution to achieving social change and the extent of youth's abilities to influence society through youth's sense of responsibility that deepens the idea of ​​social change because youth today are more powerful and capable of bringing about this change due to what youth today possess of awareness, knowledge, energy and renewed vitality in their interaction with variables to bring about change in societies through the active participation of youth in building and advancing society, deepening its path and moving towards the process of rebuilding society. In conclusion, the lecturer was honored with a certificate of appreciation from the head of the department in appreciation of her efforts in giving the lecture.

 

 

Head of Chemical Engineering Department Receives Patent for Advanced Water Treatment Technology in Oil Refineries

 

Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Saker, Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology, has been granted a patent for an advanced water treatment method developed for the polluted water released from oil refineries. This achievement was part of a collaborative research team involving academic experts from various institutions. The patent, titled "A Hybrid and Advanced Method for Treating Polluted Water Discharged from Oil Refineries Using Anodic Oxidation and Photocatalysis with High Efficiency and Low Economic Cost", was awarded by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control.

The research team included:

  • Prof. Dr. Hisham Mohammed Majid from Al-Qadisiyah University
  • Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Abbar from the University of Baghdad
  • Dr. Zaidon Khalaf Kareem, Deputy Director of the Oil Research and Development Center.

This advanced method combines anodic oxidation and photocatalysis techniques to effectively treat contaminated water from oil refineries, helping to reduce environmental damage and industrial pollution. The process offers enhanced efficiency and economic cost-effectiveness, making it a promising solution for sustainable water management in the oil industry. The patent was granted under the provisions of Article 21 of the Iraqi Patent and Industrial Models Law No. 65 of 1970, as amended, marking a significant contribution to scientific progress in water treatment technologies.

The President of the University of Technology follows up the stages of the reconstruction campaign in the laboratory building of the Department of Chemical Engineering
 

The President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Hassan Al-Ghabban, conducted an on-site visit to oversee the progress of the reconstruction and renovation efforts underway in the Department of Chemical Engineering's annex building. This visit was attended by Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the department’s administrative staff, Dr. Uday Hammoudi, Director of the Construction and Projects Department, and the University Aesthetic Committee.

Dr. Al-Ghabban stated that the University of Technology has developed a comprehensive program to enhance the infrastructure across all scientific and administrative sections of the university through extensive building and laboratory renovations. The university is committed to advancing the educational process to align with quality standards and labor market demands while meeting all the needs of its students.

The University President expressed his gratitude to all those involved in the renovation of the department’s laboratories, acknowledging the engineering and administrative teams for their efforts in meeting the required technical standards.
