Within the scientific and cultural activities of the first semester for the Department of Chemical Engineering, the Lect. Dr. Layth Salem was given a lecture related to his research under the title: Characterization of the multiphase flow system by using advanced non-invasive gamma-ray techniques, The presentation was provided inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall on Thursday 7-11-2019 in the presence of the head of chemical engineering department; Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar., and Asst. Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdul Jabbar; scientific deputy of the head of department, and Lect. Dr. Wallaa Abdel Hady; administrative deputy of the head of department, as well as the heads of the branches with a number of staff from the department in addition to the postgraduate students. The lecturer said that the results of this research are led to the fact that multiphase flow reactors regarding hydrodynamics parameters (flow dynamics) have an extreme impact on the reactor's performance and therefore their productivity. Thus we need extensively doing research on this kind of parameters by doing disgusting in non-invasive manner gamma-ray technique, for example, Radioactive particle (RPT), Gamma-ray densitometry (GRD) and computed tomography (CT) techniques. These kinds of valuable techniques give deep and crucial information that helps us to improve the design and thus the yield of the reactors such bubble column, slurry bubble column with and without dense internals, fluidized bed, spouted bed, Photobioreactors (including culturing system such as algae as part on renewable energy).
MSc. Student Yousry Ali Abd Al-Khader was awarded a MSc. Degree in Chem. Eng. from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Written by lumaThe Student was obtained a MSc. Degree after the discuss of her dissertation under the title: "A Novel Technique for Sulfur Removal from the Petroleum Heavy Oils", which was supervised by Prof. Dr. Talib Mohammed, on Wednesday 13-11-2019 inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion committee was comprised of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Dhama, Asst. Prof. Dr. Adel Sharif and Lect. Dr. Intisar Hussein. The student explained that the desulfurization of actual heavy crude oil with sulfur content 5.8 wt. % from Halfaya Oil Field in the southern of Iraq was studied using a sodium hydroxide-assisted process. The desulfurization process was achieved in a batch auto-cleave reactor by implementation of the experimental design technique. The objective function (response) was the sulfur content wt%.

Written by lumaThe Student was obtained a MSc. Degree after the discuss of her dissertation under the title: "Rheological and Mechanical Properties of Reinforced Rubber Nano-materials for Tires Manufacturing Applications", which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar and Asst. Prof. Dr. Zainab Yousif, on Monday4-11-2019 inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion committee was comprised of Asst. Prof. Dr. Adnan Abdul Jabbar, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ibtihal Karim Shaker and Lect. Dr. Alaa Mushajil. The student explained that the polybutadiene rubber properties have been improved by using graphene, MWCNTs, and TiO2 as nanomaterials, this method applied in many industrial applications including tires manufacturing. In this research, we have studied the influence of different nanomaterials and variance loading level on mechanical and thermal specifications of rubber composites, also, study various characterization including SEM, FTIR and XRD to identify the morphology surface nanocomposites, showing functional groups and crystalline structures of composites.
