First Meeting of the International Conference entitled "First International Conference on Engineering Education"

On the blessing of God, the first meeting of the International Conference entitled "First International Conference on Engineering Education" was held in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology on Thursday 7/6/2018 in order to discuss the work of the conference in the presence the members of the Preparatory Committee and the members of the Scientific Committee and Secretariat of the Conference. The Scientific Deputy Asst. Prof. Dr. Khaled Ajami welcomed the Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and all members present were welcomed.

Within the scientific and cultural activities of the second semester for the Department of Chemical Engineering the MSc. student Zulfikar Nasser Jaber was given a lecture related to his research under the title: High Performance Lubricating Oil for Military Tanks Applications by Using Different Nano-particles. The presentation was provided inside the Al-Khwarizmi Hall on Thursday 10-5-2018 in the presence of the head of chemical engineering department; Assist Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, scientific deputy of the head of department, and Lect. Dr. Wallaa Abdel Hady Al-Najjar; administration deputy of the head of department, as well as the heads of the branches with a number of staff from the department in addition to the postgraduate students.

Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar, scientific deputy of the head of department, and Lect. Dr. Wallaa Abdel Hady Al-Najjar; administration deputy of the head of department, as well as the heads of the branches with a number of staff from the department in addition to the postgraduate students. 

A faculty member from the Department of Chemical Engineering receives a Distinguished Thesis Prize.

One of the faculty members of our department is Abbas Sultan, who had already obtained a PhD scholarship in the United States at the University of Missouri for Science and Technology and he successfully received a Distinguished Thesis Award. This prize is awarded to doctoral students who can publish three or more research papers as the first author before graduation. 

Department of Chemical Engineering held the general assembly meeting under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology.

In the presence of the President of the University of Technology prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir, The Chemical Engineering Department held the second meeting of the General Assembly on Tuesday, 15-5-2018. The President of the University stressed that the meeting of the General Assembly is a scientific necessity to strengthen the aspects of scientific, organizational and educational and he was presented the scientific achievements of the university during the academic year 2017/2018. On the other hand the head of the Department of Chemical Engineering Assist Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai was presented the scientific achievements, which was accomplished during the scientific events and procedures for the department during this year. He stressed the necessitate to pay attention to educational aspects and not to limit the relationship between faculty members and students on the scientific aspects only and the need to create the appropriate atmosphere for the performance of the final examinations.

 

A training workshop to activate the e-learning system

The Chemical Engineering Department held a training workshop on Monday 16/4/2018 at Dar Al-Salaam Hall, in order to activate the e-learning system using Google Classroom for all levels of study in the under- and post-graduate studies according to the directives of the University of Technology aiming to develop education at the university. This workshop was held in the presence of the head of chemical engineering department; Assist Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Khalid Ajami Sukkar; scientific deputy of the head of department, and Lect. Dr. Wallaa Abdel Hady Al-Najjar; administration deputy of the head of department, as well as the heads of the branches with a number of faculty members in the department. The lecture was delivered by Assist. Lect. Khalid Mansour Sadiq and there was a response from most of the academic staff so as to make this system a success and apply it in the academic year 2017/2018 because the system is important in increasing scientific communication between the lecturer and the student.

MSc. Student Zainab Abdel Amir Jody was awarded a MSc. Degree in Chem. Eng. from the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Degree after the discuss of her dissertation under the title: " Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Hydrodynamics in Gas-Liquid-Solid Fluidized", which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Zaidoon Mohsin and Asst. Prof. Dr. Amer Aziz on Sunday, 29-3-2018 inside Al-Khwarizmi Hall in Chemical Engineering Department-University of Technology. The discussion Committee was comprised of; Asst. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, Asst. Prof. Dr. Asauer Abdul Razool and Dr. Shaker Mahmoud Ahmed.

"Haidar Abdul Ali Abdul Karim" one of the faculty members in our department who had a scholarship to study outside the country was discussed his doctoral thesis, which entitled "Process Simulation and Experimental Investigation of Biofuel Production in A High Rate Anaerobic Digestion Process" on Sunday, April 8, 2018 in the United States at the University of Missouri for Science and Technology. He successfully passed the discussion and was awarded a Ph.D. degree.

The Department of Chemical Engineering held a seminar entitled "Modern technology used in the investment of associated and natural gas in Iraq" and under the patronage of the President of the University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir in the presence of university president deputy for administrative affairs Prof. Dr. Sami Abu Al-Nun and the head of the Chemical Engineering Department Asst. Prof. Dr. Jamal Manee Al-Rubeai, and Mr. Hilal Ali Ismail, Director of the Oil Research and Development Center, in addition to the faculty members and employees from the Technology University, on Dar Al-Salam Hall inside the Department of Chemical Engineering on Monday, 19/3/2018. The symposium aimed in using the modern methods and techniques, which utilized in the field of natural and associated gas investment in the world, as well as to study the feasibility and economics of associated and natural gas technology in terms of economic cost and its effects on the environment. The head of the department delivered a speech in which he expressed the most important ways to exploit the associated and natural gas in Iraq through a scientific study carried out by professors and encourages them to do so. The scientific lectures were opened and they were then delivered by the lecturers. At the end of the symposium, shields and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the lecturers and the Preparatory Committee.
